A Floridian's Harvest...

This year the Harvest Moon rose on Friday the 13th in September. Traditionally, it marks the steady, patient death overcoming the vibrance of summer with the autumn equinox. In Florida, however, this passage of time is virtually nonexistent. Autumn comes late, if it ever comes at all, and winter appears suddenly in a shock mid December. This past Sunday, as October came toward its end, we searched all over Tampa for a sign of a Harvest. A cool wind, a flurry of leaves, and a burning in the sky. Instead, we found pumpkins and corn fields. A bag of kettle corn made to sweet, salty perfection. But the weather was a steady 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Well, at least one could say Florida is nothing if not consistent.
