What can we count on if not our seasonal style guides every fashion week? I can hardly think to plan for the next month let alone the next season, especially in the uncertainty that is my mid twenties. But fashion week provides some solidity and cathartic closet surveying that makes me feel somewhat secure in my future - even if it's only fashion.
1. Hot Pants
If you were a fan of the bike short trend (a la Kardashian or Princess Di, pick your celebrity allegiance), then you're out of luck I'm afraid. It's all legs (and a little cheek) for next spring and summer. Invest in some anti chaffing powder while you're at it since it's all chub rub from here on out.2. Under as Outerwear
We saw this trend back in 2018 and realized lace pajama camis and slips look so good outside the bedroom. And why spend $50+ on a Victoria Secret pajama ensemble if no one is going to see it?
3. Baggy Trouser
For those of us who love a good hot pant but want to care for the tender skin of our thighs in 90 degree weather. Bohemian is boring. Pair these with a blazer of the same shade and heels for a polished finish.
4. Saffron Yellow
This yellow is a bright burst of sunshine after a long winter and the first of Pantone's many declared SS2020 colors to dominate runways. It's a color of duality; bright and bold but warm and approachable at the same time.
5. Minty Fresh
6. Burning Red
Spring is symbolic of new beginnings and life. And what represents a passion for life more than the color red. As Bram Stoker wrote, "The blood is the life!", as is this color for Spring-Summer 2020.
8. Cinched Waist
A purposeful cinched waist by a belt or a band is comfortable but form accentuating. It continues the duality of the season by the blending comfort and class.9. Sunset Orange
This is the color of a long summer days end on the beach when the sun burns and glitters on the waters of the horizon. It's a bold color elevated by glitter, satin or velvet fabric and accentuated when paired with matte's of complimenting tones.
10.Texture
Ruffles, folds, fur and plumes. As long as you want to touch it, it's doing its job. Pair with a simple up do or straight hair and accentuate with long lines everywhere else.
11. Menswear
Menswear is nothing new with the exception of how dapper it is this Spring-Summer 2020. It combines all the trends we've seen (Baggy trousers, cinched waist, and blazers galore) without the unnecessary pressure to make it feminine.
12. 70's Stripes
There's always one obvious throwback trend and this time it's rainbow stripes. I've been waiting for this one ever since Crazy Rich Asians when Rachel Chu wore her Missoni dress during the blooming of the Tan Hua's.
13. White Blazer
Perhaps, the white blazer is the most intimidating of all this Spring-Summer 2020 season. How does one tame one half of a 'Power Suit'? I'd opt for the Eva Chen treatment, a buttoned up blazer styled as a dress with a cinched waist and less formal statement shoes or paired with short shorts and sneakers for a sportier street style.
14. Black on White
A classic combination and easy way to make a statement without too much noise. Natural makeup and long white boots make for a refreshing twist on this old classic.
